hc2 form 2022

What is the hc2 form? Is this a certificate? How can I get it? You will receive the hc2 certificate through the NHS Low Income Scheme. This is if you qualify for full help on health costs. This Your Benefits article will tell you everything that you need to know about the hc2 certificate.

How to apply for hc2 certificate

You may wonder how to apply for an hc2 form. You can receive an hc2 certificate by applying for the NHS Low Income Scheme. Do to so, you will likely first have to complete the hc2 application form: the hc1 form. However, to apply for a hc2 certificate online in 2022, you can do so on the NHS website.

Unlike the HC1 form, the hc2 form is actually a certificate in 2022. If you are eligible for full help with health costs, you will receive an hc2 certificate.

You can apply either by post or online in 2022. However, although both are viable, applying tends to be easier and quicker than applying by post with the hc1 form.

What is a hc2 certificate

You will receive the hc2 certificate in 2022 if you can receive full help with healthcare costs. Then, you can receive the following:

You may claim these with your certificate within the validity period. Make sure that your hc2 certificate is still valid when claiming help with health costs. Otherwise, you could get charged up to £100.

How to renew your hc2 certificate

What is a hc2 certificate

Your hc2 certificate’s validity may vary. More specifically, it could be valid for 6 months to 5 years. In fact, this depends on your circumstances. Then, you can renew your hc2 certificate online or by post in 2022.

In most cases, if your circumstances change, you may not need to notify the NHS. In fact, if your financial situation changes, you may continue to use your certificate. Do this until its expiration. However, this is unless your certificate is valid for 5 years.

Your hc2 certificate may be valid for 5 years. Then, contact the NHS if you experience a change in your situation. Certain circumstances could affect your certificate’s validity. Furthermore, you may need to renew your hc2 form. To do this, you likely need to fill out an hc1 form.

For example, if you change your address, you need to notify the NHS. Indeed, their records will have to be updated. Furthermore, you will also have to send them your hc2 certificate. Indeed, you will also have to provide a copy of one of the following documents:

  • Decree Absolute;
  • Passport;
  • Civil partnership certificate;
  • Marriage certificate;
  • Deed poll.

You will need to send it to the following address:

Bridge House
152 Pilgrim Street
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE1 6SN

You may damage or even lose your hc2 certificate before it expires. If this is the case, contact the NHS. Then, they will send you a replacement within 10 working days.

Once your hc2 certificate expires, you need to re-apply for the NHS Low Income Scheme. Indeed, you would then need to complete another hc1 form to receive another hc2 form.

I didn’t get an hc2 form

You may not have received a hc2 certificate. This may be the case if you are not eligible for full help with health costs. Then, you may either receive nothing, or an hc3 certificate. This certificate is for those who are eligible for limited help with health costs.

You may ask for a formal review on your claim. Then, this would be done by a service improvement adviser. They will verify if your claim has been assessed correctly. In fact, it must have been done following the regulations of the scheme.

Important
Your claim may have been assessed incorrectly. If this is the case, you will be sent a new hc2 or hc3 certificate. However, you need to ask for a formal review first.

What is the NHS Low Income Scheme?

How to apply for hc2 certificate

The hc2 certificate is what you receive when eligible for the NHS Low Income Scheme. More than that, it means that you are eligible for full help on health costs. As such, it is important to know what this scheme is in the first place.

You could earn the NHS Low Income Scheme if you are low on income. Then, you could get an hc2 certificate in 2022.

How do I apply for the NHS Low Income Scheme?

There are two different ways by which you may apply for the NHS Low Income Scheme. Indeed, you may do so by post or online. If you do so by post, you will need to acquire and fill out an hc1 form. Applying online is done on the NHS Business Services Authority website.

Depending on your location, you will need to visit the relevant government website. In most cases, you can get an hc1 form in person, online, or online to receive it in person.

How will my claim be assessed?

Once you submitted your claim, the NHS will look at how much money you could receive. To do this, they will take a look at your income. More specifically, they will compare two things. They will look at the money you get compared to the money you need. Then, you could get an hc2 certificate in 2022.

In other words, the NHS will see how much you get. Then, they will look at how much you need to cover your health and other costs. This is called your ‘weekly requirements‘.

Your ‘weekly requirements‘ is meant to portray the money you need to spend for basic daily living expenses. This may include housing, food, as well as your health costs.

Why is this important? You could receive an hc2 certificate if you are entitled to full help with health costs. This happens if one of the following applies to your income:

  • It is the same or less than your living requirement;
  • It is more than your living requirement, but up to half of the cost of a prescription in England.

Your situation may be assessed in the following way:

NHS Low Income Scheme claim assessment example
Name  Amount of money
Income £120.76 a week
Weekly requirements £123.47 a week
Difference -£2,71

Here, this person is eligible for full help. This is because their weekly requirements exceed their weekly income. As such, they will receive an hc2 certificate

    Hello, I receive full P.I.P & receive just state pension. I am know going through an emotional divorce after 32 yrs of abuse. However, I am getting over it with the help of friend & Leeways who have been absolutely brilliant & are still with me 100% all the way. It’s just that I live in a very rural area, & it cost me a round taxi fare of £32.00, or the cheapest I can find is £27.00 to go & visit my 92 year Mum who lives only 10 miles away. I am registered severly disabled, so to catch a bus is 1, very difficult, & 2 I would have to change & then get a taxi from the centre of the City (nightmare to say the least). The cost of this makes it hard for me to go & visit Mother on very rare occasions, what with the cost of living rising as it is & my out going’s bills etc. How do you think I would stand a chance in getting help with getting some with the cost of my glasses & dentist? Hope I haven’t rambled on too much & explained my position as well as possible, thank you for you assistance in this matter, your faithfully

      Hello,

      From the information that you provided, you should be able to receive a HC2 certificate. If not, you should be able to receive help with at least some health costs (HC3 certificate).
      Either way, you would need to apply to the NHS Low Income Scheme: https://www.your-benefits.co.uk/health/nhs-low-income-scheme/

      You sound like you are in a tough situation. However, getting an HC2 or HC3 certificate could help pay for some or all of your health costs.

      Hope this helps and good luck,
      Robin

    I have a resident who requires dental assessment but family not sure if they have HC2 certificate. Is the resident not automatically free of charge being in a care home?

    • Robin

      Hello Arlene,

      It’s my understanding that residents of care homes still need an HC2 certificate to be covered. However, if the resident or their partner get Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, or Pension Credit Guarantee Credit with Savings Credit, they are automatically eligible for free NHS dental care.

      Hope this helps,
